I can't speak for anyone else, but I have noticed that lately, there have been fewer and fewer players. My theory on why the game has taken this unfortunate turn is that as video games in general move towards a more attention demanding style(i.e. Every single FPS in existence) that keeps the player attached to the game for a long period of time, games like AtWar become obsolete. So, I propose that AtWar moves in a similar direction; REAL TIME. Like many other suggestions, the idea is still in development, but the change would be to the effect of replacing turns with rapid update intervals(a few seconds apart). Players would only get a move or two per turn, but it would demand more attention from the player, and thus would allow a more immersive experience, and keep players active for longer. Any further ideas, posted in the form of replies, would be greatly appreciated.

I second this, maybe have it as a different mode. Also, maybe have multiple people controlling a single country, much like generals. Or maybe assign different duties (one be head of airforce. other navy....)

More options is always nice of course, however not always possible. @Paroxsym; Could you elaborate more on your idea, I am probably being dumb, however I dont really understand the idea.

Absolutely Instead of having turns that are several minutes, they would be several seconds. This would demand more attention from the players, and keep then active, ultimately benefiting the players, and keep them attached to the game. The players would only be able to manage a move, maybe 2 per turn. With something like this, knowledge of the game mechanics and quick thinking are a must. However, as they aren't really turns, I propose that they instead be referred to as update intervals, until a better title arises. tl;dr makes the game better.

I am not sure all players would like the idea and there is the option of having 1 minute turns already. Shorter turns wouldn't be to difficult to implement as an option though, I would assume we would need to see if there is enough demand from players to warrant such an addition. Make a poll for shorter minute turns maybe, to back up your case.

It wouldn't be so much turns, as I said. It would be more of just updating the positions of units on the map. The clock wouldn't even be necessary. In this case, players may be limited to one move per turn, or an entirely new resource or variable could be added, determining how many of a unit can be moved each interval. Once again, still in development, I don't think a poll would really suffice, until the idea is completely formulated.

You know instead of a game like that... how about having a section were players play against artificial intelligence.... aka AI... i mean it takes 15 minutes to start a game... it almost never fails.. and also when people want to play a certain game nobody ever makes it... i mean this feature would only be for premium players... it would only make people desire to buy premium more... to play a quick start game... with randomly chosen countries or custom chosen countries.... and you fight them all... on a difficulty level of easy hard and normal... and only on hard can you get sp... just a suggestion... and also shorter choosing times will greatly help atwar games start faster.... or an option for the host to make the choosing time shorter and also if they dont choose then that person is kicked for taking to long...

Ok first off, are you having a stroke? You're pausing a lot. Second, I made a post about a potential Campaign mode for AtWar. That seems to go along with what you're saying.

Yes on the AI, that has been largely demanded. For starters before that though, just add a ''neutral'' player to balance reinforcements or something for testing. About the instant update thing: I think it's a good concept, but very different from the AW we have now. Gameplay would differ vastly, but I do think it's worth implementing. Lower turn times aren't needed as much, however a game-mode where you can make a set number of moves per turn is. It would take priority to a new level, and add another dimension to gameplay. I'd suggest sticking to turn time in it (however it pauses when it's not your turn to move) and updating the map every move (with a battle report). This makes it similar to chess, and would be particularly useful in 1v1 situations. Another suggestion to look at that's related to this is dynamic turn times, where you can set a turn 1 to be 5 minutes then 5 minutes then 4, or every reinforcement turn give an extra minute, or every 8 turns add a minute.

That's a fantastic idea. With everything and everyone moving at the same time, it would be relatively hectic, but if only one person were moving, like chess, as you said, it would be more organized, and for that matter, more Risk-like. As TritonMan stated, another aspect would be teams in this gamemode, with multiple players in the same country, each represented by their respective general. This could add an element of coordination that you wouldn't find in most other games, because the survival/victory of the team would directly correlate to each player. Come to think of it, this would be especially interesting in CW.

I think AI would be an absolute shit. No one can compare the level of dificulty of an AI with that of a person. I would be bored as hell playing against AI. As for paroxysm's or tactician's ideas... I'm not entirely sure if such thing is possible with the actual mechanics of this game, it seems more like you're asking for a different game.

The games mechanics would change dramatically. However, the original game would be preserved in a separate game mode. This could even replace the original game. Only one player would play per turn, and the turn would be only 5-10 seconds long. To reiterate; Idea still being formulated.

Instead of hoping someone to message you, you should be messaging ivan or amok about your idea, since it suggests such a dramatic change in the game as a whole.
