You really think 5 players out of the whole community aren't suitable for mod position? Hmm... Okay.

The issue with new mods is the current system is only recommendations of old mods lol, meaning only there friends get in,meaning older inactive players just like themselves, moderation is a popularity contest these days. Make moderation catagorized by the skill set you bring, have forum mods for forum, have on game mods for players have map mods for map related issues in editor and scenario, and so on, you can't expect say desu to give a flying fuck about map editor cause he's never shown interest in that part of the community. Its logical but would break the current lazy ass implemented system.

Yes, it is in my humble opinion that moderation is influenced by personal relationships, but with that being said desu bertank and tact are the only three who I'd consider as sm mods, the others came later loachra meester and so on, aswell I don't think any of them are bad mods but desu and Bertank are super inactive, the others are all semi inactive, so I propose that moderation needs to stop being clique admission based and instead mods should be based on activity helpfulness and responsibility, as well as rationality and unbiasedness. I'm so sick and tired of getting the whole oh the community is all trolls speal none are qualified to be a mod der der der. Whats the worse that could happen adding a few probational mods and see if things take off. Now lastly here are my recommendations I'll get alot of shit for this but who cares. Myself, Tunder and aetius would make great additions for my above post about catagorized moderation as map mods. Clovis, ghost, and Ferlucci are my recommendations for new in game mods, and most mods are forum warriors all ready so we don't need more of those. Like I said nothing wrong with probation period mods, if none work out demote what harm is done? Maybe you got a great new asset.

a moderator gone wild could create a real mess if they wanted to. Forum posts/duels/cws all deleted irreversibly, players muted and banned, their profiles messed with or deleted, accounts stolen, access to ips etc. Would be a real nightmare to clean up after.

Like I said aswell there should be a system implemented to integrate new mod slowly, giving them few powers to start with and as they show there worth gaining more and more ability to assist the community.

i wasnt referring to any of the names you mentioned, just highlighting the damage a rogue mod could potentially do. But yea mods used to not get profile editing powers until they'd been a mod for a while but that was abolished shortly after myself and brian were promoted.

I ve missed a lot here, though why arent those inactive mods you are reffering to demoted?Simple. Their work and contribution to this community and game was and is big enough to hold them to mod position in hope they might come back and moderate the game like they used to do. Even if i agree that they had great influence in the game, they should be demoted and if they ever comeback in the mood to moderate then if admins and mods support they should be promoted again. As for new mods idk.I was told by a mod one or two days after dino s and tact s promotuon that more mods will come, nothing yet. They still trying to find those specific persons who all will agree they were made to moderate AtWar. Me myself have some candicates in my mind but I wont share.Im sure for one future mod though.

Fyi some of the mods if not most that are in place right now, are very incompetent wheter because of inactiveness or by inappropriate behavior towards the community, to inability to mod properly. So your question is kind of irrelevant. Though I will still address it. BautistaR Waltz (less active but definitely have to be included. Probably the most competent for this role) Heat Check JFreders RaulPB Trystane Martell ROYAL Prometheus Eagle I can go on, just wanted to show there is more than 5 or 6 that could be chosen without raising eyebrow from the active players. A more active mod team could do actually something beneficial for the game. Perhaps those new active will have schedules to start events every now and then, encourage players to invest money, actually coach etc. After all this is a voluntary position they should do something besides having powers to do whatever they want, cause right now I don't see any coins for being a mod other than become less interested in the game once you get it.

I don't understand the issue here, you guys want new mods because some of the older mods are inactive, but why is that a reason to add new mods when there isn't a need for them? Mods should be added/removed as atWar player numbers increase/decrease. From the vibe I get, you guys basically want all high rank active players as mods. I see no issue with the current system - who cares if only SM players get 'modship', as long as they are good. i.e. Dino is a great mod (no longer in SM, but still)
Can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually agree hdrakon - sure some of them are better than others but they are all active and/or likable players. But as stated I don't know if we need more mods right now, that's for moderators to decide.

Since we're all recommending mods there's only 2 from the competitive community that can realistically be trusted in such a roll. Heat check Prometheus Neither are looking to be a mod or have a hidden agenda, both are upstanding guys, very rarely do they argue or get personal over stuff. Both are consistently active, they always come back after taking a break, and finally they are polite and morally decent.. That's more than can be said of some current mods... Only question is, would they want the job?

This question comes back every now and then. "Remove inactive mods so new active mods can join". Add more mods First of all, we are constantly looking for new moderators. If you know someone good, suggest them to one of the active moderators and we will check it out. There is no 'secret' around picking a mod, we are just very cautious picking one. Now and then some people get promoted to mod, as you all know. Remove inactive mods One of the 'inactive' mods, is me. I'm checking forum now and then, and i'm online sometimes, or hosting a tournanament, but really too few to really be considered a active mod. I totally agree with the players who say that i'm too inactive. So, i actually did considered leaving myself a few times. But after i discussed this with other mods and admins I thought: Whats the point of demoting? I'm still mod, even thought inactive. The fact that we do need more active mods, will not be resolved by removing inactive mods. There is no limit on the number of mods. So it's not that i struggle to keep my position as mod, but i don't see a reason to resign either. Besides: even that we (inactive mods) don't do much actual moderating, our opinions or experience can be quite valuable in the Mod forums.

I pretty much agree with your main post, even remember Desu saying something similar before. There are indeed mods that you don't see playing very frequently but they still log in at least once in a week. I wouldn't call they inactive, but that's just my opinion. There are, however, mods that haven't logged in 1 / 3 of a year. There is a mod that even have more than a year without logging in. Furthermore, there are also mods that log in one day for going inactive for months later on. I find it hard to believe that theses mods are actually contributing to the team, either in public or in private. I'm not saying that they should'be necessary demoted (I agree with Ivan that there's really no need to). But I believe that whoever can't contribute more to the team should step down. Acq and Pinheiro step down and they deserve their respect. I believe a couple of inactive mods should also step down in pro to the new generation of players. It's a personal decision though...
