This isn't your thought lol; the entire world is foaming at the mouth for practical uses of ai. Programming an ai bot would be very time consuming and require an extensive knowledge of machine learning. Integrating it into this spaghetti code would be a nightmare.

the only practical use I could see is a training simulator or a single player mode for those who wish.

All this game has, is its community. A cold, sterilized, bot does nothing for it. The majority of players are not going to log on, to play against a fucking ai bot.

The only part i agree with is 'would be very time consuming'. I never denied that, I always emphasize that it's enormous effort compared to the fact that we have the tutorial coming soon for years.

Are you programmer? If you are, then help Dave implement AI in game if is it that simple. If you are not, than better shut up about things you know nothing.. Adding Ai features is maybe easy, but adding it to existing code that is already bad and messed up is headache.. As Dave already said, sometimes is easier to create whole game from scratch than updating it with new features.

This is in addition to yesterday's game I played with Lev (also trolled cuz someone dc'ed). I'm not really motivated to join quick scenarios when this happens . Besides, there's only one from the 5 or so perma-banned players that would consistently join and help us fill quick scenario games: Lion Sin Escanor.

And Lion Sin Escanor is the only one that I believe truly deserves a chance from the 5 or so permabanned players. Before the ban he was on a supporting role, helping beginner get onboard and contributing to the game. Those of us who played with him knew he was a gentle, cool and chill fellow. In the heat of the moment, a mistake was made. After that, he acknowledged his mistake and apologized for what he did. Even after being told that he won't be unbanned, he acknowledged the response and remained cool and comprensible about it.

I'm in many discord servers. I've never seen lion bicker the same way other people do. History may have been (irrecoverably) lost but he's someone who did and can still do good for the game. If only he was given a realistic way to redeem himself...

I'm pretty sure he's doing it just for the sake of the drama. He cannot possibly be serious or believe his own BS.

So I've gone ahead and deleted and device-banned Waffel's alt. Since his main acc had an existing ban in place, he should not have been here posting on an alt, and I should not have allowed him to do it for so long. I'm going to follow AW policy on this one moving forward.

For those of you who may believe Waffel's warped reality and/or don't like what I'm doing, I invite you to delete your accounts yourselves. Here's how to do it:

We all love AW, but the problem remains the same as I pointed out in my previous post: lack of content, improvements, quality of gameplay, and of course, a dying community. Very little time is invested in developing meaningful changes, and instead, the players gets punished (what!?)

Now it's time to ban Croat, or unban others, or preferably both, but pick something.

It's not my fight to fight, so this will probably be my last contribution but I would like to just say that nobody here (except for some retards you know who...) wants to see atwar die, we all like atwar and want to see it very active. We care a lot about this game and so we have a lot of emotions which has been misguided (refer to my previous posts). I also wish to add that if the people are given stuff they will give back. I hope everyone who has the chance to contact dave about being unbanned does in fact do that. If the game seems some rise in clan war activity i think ill finally release my collection of videos and release some tutorials, I promise that i am very enthusiastic about the tutorials and helping the game just as many others are, I just hope some chances are given and if you want to discuss this dave I don't mind helping anywhere if it means some more of my friends and the community being helped, and i understand youre busy, however most people here are and they still log on, even the banned friends that i'd like to see come back still enjoy this game and so i hope this reaches the right place

I am just saying that its not easy as people think.. They see 50minute tutorial on youtube and they think they can became programmers in 1h or they can create a game with 1h youtube video.. Dave said many times that code of this game is whole mess. If he created that mess, he could've implement new features much easier, but changing someone else's code is just pain in ass..

The amount of time and effort that was spent on this topic,wish it was spent on improvement on the game called atwar. Seems like its fate is to die slowly. Wish you guys all the best.

Wow, I didn't expect such a hostile response. I'll break it down into parts to make sure I get my point across this time. One last try. The thread is going to die now anyways, judging by Dave's last comment.

Yes, I'm a software engineer and a business owner, like Dave, actually. I never claimed to be anything else. Learning about history and playing strategy games just happens to be my hobby since I was a teen. So we both like atwar... one fewer reason to hate each other.

Definitely not helping Dave (the game, rather) out of spite, although I would be open for it, that's up to him, not me (...) and I highly doubt he couldn't find someone for the job if he wanted to. Additionally, that's not the appropriate format to approach this anyway - there's no API or a modding toolkit, atwar is a makeshift game in the browser with clearly outdated tech, you know.

I will not comment on the shut up part, however, my knowledge in game development is OK. It's neither expert nor rookie level. All I know derives from my years of experience playing strategy games and what I know about programming in general. In other words, I never tried to sit down and create a game myself, but I have a deep understanding of the technical background, if that makes sense. As an analogy: like an auto mechanic who specializes in repairing Porsche vehicles, but he could also look into a BMW's issues, given he's exercising a little caution and studies the specifics beforehand (...) the result won't be perfect, but he can deliver results consistently at the least.

I would say it is the opposite; creating a complex AI bot for a task is much harder than integrating it into a pre-existing ecosystem (the game in our case). In terms of programming, it could be compared to the difficulties of hosting/operating a website vs making a blank html website for your IT teacher in school, or turning a singleplayer game into online multiplayer. If you specifically referred to the optimization part though and you are also speculating that the game's code is this messy, then both aspects are difficult indeed.

I have no idea what Dave did or didn't say in this regard, but I can fortunately tell you again, this is precisely what I said in my first comment in this thread:

As I explained earlier, this is something that I genuinely believe to be an incredibly good addition and I have a subjective bias for it. If you read this carefully, you will notice that you could replace this sentence with 'add custom strategies in the map editor' for instance, and my point would be the same - to make updates to the game at ANY scale because it has been stalling for years. It was Sphinx who derailed my original message because I made the mistake of quoting him. It's also very likely that he doesn't even know about my first msg, he just jumped on me without prior knowledge.
I also said the following:
'Alternatively, you could keep the existing IP and make atWar 2. That way, the core legacy playerbase (veterans) could stay here and enjoy the game until they (or you) see fit.'
I think this clarifies to you that I'm aware it might be easier to do. But then do it, stop sitting still. Don't let it stagnate until there's no players left. A videogame is not a Disney movie that you can remake in live adaptation to refresh the copyright ownership 60 years later. That was my whole point with this. Lecturing you, Sphinx or Dave about programming was not on my bucket list. I'm also pretty sure Dave could do it better than me - he knows much more about the game's code and his experience with game development is surely higher than mine (which is nearly zero, quite easy to beat).

A sum up of this thread. Nero brings back up waffles old thank you letter and starts asking for players to be unbanned. Waffel writes up his thesis on why he should be unbanned Dave ignores it all because he didn't want to read it. Dave says he'd be willing to review the cases on banned players waffle reach's out and Dave blocks him on discord. Waffle continues his thesis and still gets ignored. Dave then claims that waffle is a troublemaker and making up drama(when waffle didn't start the unban thing nero did as I said before) waffle gets mad about being ignored and tells Dave to kill himself and that is the only thing Dave gleaned from this entire thing.(Dave was referring to f u waffles so he really cant act innocent) am I right Dave can correct, or me if I'm wrong.

As tengri mentionned despite thé toxicity it was passionnate and warm, a little bit liké a family, we knew each other, fought each other, trashed each other... at the end of thé day we all came back for more, and now it's gone, empty, with no skilled players to make the game interesting. Even the staff team is gone and ni games are being played, partly because that little community that was either banned or driven away was creating the quick game activity, or was able to train some new people to do it (try understand some scénarios without skilled players to explain you what to do. As 4nic said, you should unban all, not because you like them but because theyre making the activity. You should stay up in the sky coding and improving the games (i'll bé dead before thé tutorials are done) and not bother yourself with thé retards and the nerds, permamute them on all but pr (they'll make alts otherwise)
